Victorian illustration to download showing a picture of a blind man sitting in a street reading aloud from a (?Braille) Bible. A little girl watches his fingers on the page with fascination. This portrayal, dating from 1885, is of Joseph Small, a navy veteran, who had been blind for 16 years and could make his way unaided all over London. He had a regular pitch in the Fulham Road where he could earn 2s 6d a day by reading the Bible aloud.
