Victorian illustration to download showing a picture of a northern industrial town, Leeds, from Beeston Hill. An artist is sketching, and his rural surroundings (fields, fences, a farmhouse) contrast with the view of mills and factories with their tall smoking chimneys and newly-built terrace housing. Leeds Town Hall can be seen in the centre of the town. Its central dome had not yet been completed at the date of this illustration (1858), which was made to commemorate a visit to Leeds by Queen Victoria when she formally opened the Town Hall. From sl rough original.
