Victorian illustration to download showing dockyard workers readying a warship for launching. The ship is propped up by large timbers in a large dockyard shed, and in the background is the open water. This was HMS ‘Nankin’, a 50-gun steam frigate, launched at the Royal Dockyard, Woolwich, in 1850. The figurehead was a representation of Vice Admiral Sir William Parker, whose daughter launched the ship. The ‘Nankin’ served in the China Wars between 1856 and 1859, and was broken up in 1905. A model of the ‘Nankin’ can be seen in the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich.
